DB Schenker continues its path to success in Austria and Southeast Europe
DB Schenker made significant progress in Austria and Southeast Europe in 2007 and continues to lay further milestones in the current year.
A consistently positive balance sheet for the 2007 financial year was reported by the Executive Board of SCHENKER & CO AG (Vienna) in its summer press conference on 10 July in Vienna.
Throughout the region, in 2007 some 6.3 million shipments were handled (+ 11%) via land, air and sea freight. In comparison to 2006, the turnover of DB Schenker in Austria and the Southeast European region increased by nearly 10 percent to EUR 1,497 million.
Growth was 6 percent in relation to international land transportation from and to Austria and as high as 15 percent from and to Eastern Europe. In addition, in 2007 SCHENKER & Co. AG handled around 7.2 million tonnes by rail throughout the Southeast European region.
SCHENKER & Co. AG also strengthened its position as market leader in terms of air and sea freight. 2007 saw for the first time significantly more than 100,000 TEUs being handled from and to Austria, in the other Southeast European countries it was approximately 90,000 TEUs. In terms of air freight, throughout the region DB Schenker handled over 220,000 shipments, corresponding tonnage exceeded 82,000.
Acquisition of important customers in 2007 by the Logistics Business Unit led to a significant improvement in the utilisation of capacity at the Logistics Service Centre. In Southeast Europe new projects, for example in the automobile and consumer goods sectors, were successfully implemented.
