Opening of the New Klagenfurt Terminal

Modern new site in Carinthia offers entire range of logistics solutions for SMBs and large companies

SCHENKER & CO AG opened its new terminal in Klagenfurt today. With total investments amounting to around 13 million Euro, construction of the site started in July 2010.

Situated on the terrain of the Klagenfurt airport, the terminal replaces DB Schenker's previous site in Raiffeisenstraße 13 and is the workplace for around 80 employees, starting immediately.

It contributes transport and logistics solutions using all traffic carriers to Carinthia's economy, including comprehensive outsourcing concepts featuring storage and a variety of additional services.

A range of high-quality land, water and air transport solutions

"We are among the leading providers in Carinthia both in European overland transportation as well as in air and sea freight. We want to consolidate and expand these positions with the new terminal."

This is how Mag. Elmar Wieland, Chairman of the Board of Schenker & Co AG for Austria and the South East Europe region, describes the goal. The conditions are in place: the new Klagenfurt terminal offers the entire range of freight forwarding solutions and is a part of DB Schenker's network in Europe and overseas, with a total of more than 2,000 locations.

Carinthia's economy now finds itself with the best national and international connections when it comes to European overland transportation by truck. DB Schenker's office in Carinthia is also distinguished by its high competence in handling air and sea freight as well as customs.

For sea freight, the import and export of sea freight containers for Carinthia's leading companies and important medium-sized customers is organised primarily through the southern ports of Trieste and Koper, and for air freight, the new Klagenfurt terminal benefits from the interaction with air freight hubs in Salzburg and Vienna.

Rail traffic becomes an option – logistics outsourcing as a way to reduce costs

With the completion of the rail connection to the Klagenfurt terminal, the future integration of transportation by rail in the logistics chain of Carinthia's industry and commercial businesses is finally possible.

In the Klagenfurt terminal, companies can make use of around 2,000 square meters of logistics areas, and with a capacity of up to 2,400 pallet spaces they also have the possibility of having DB Schenker store their trade goods, finished products or raw materials for production.

Branch manager Klaus Hermetter sums it up like this: “We operate a state-of-the-art site and offer a complete range of services, from package distribution to project transport, from national overland transportation to intercontinental transport chains, both for major companies as well as for small customers and SMBs."
