Ski World Cup 2012

DB Schenker is official logistics partner for the Bansko Ski World Cup

Transport of over 500 tons of freight to the ski region in southern Bulgaria • DB SCHENKERsportsevents active for many years

Bansko in Bulgaria will once again be the venue of several events in the Alpine Ski World Cup. From 18 to 26 February 2012 the winter sports region in the south-west of Bulgaria will host a Giant Slalom and Slalom event for men and a Downhill and Super-G for women. DB Schenker is responsible for all of the logistics involved.

Prior to the competition, the DB Schenker country organisation in Bulgaria has had to coordinate the transport of over 500 tons of equipment from Austria, Germany and Slovenia to Bansko.

This includes parts of the VIP area, safety nets, marquees and the material of many sponsors. The task is made more difficult by the location of the site at an altitude of over 2,000 metres in the Pirin Mountains.

After the event DB Schenker will be organising the return and onward transport of the material.

“The World Cup event in Bansko is a veritable highlight in Bulgaria. We are delighted to have been entrusted again with the logistical organisation,” says Helmut Schweighofer, managing director of Schenker EOOD, Sofia.

Schenker EOOD employs 150 people in six offices and offers all DB Schenker services: national and international road transport, rail logistics, sea and air freight, and contract logistics.

In May 2010 the company opened a modern terminal in Sofia with its own railway siding. Last year it added a logistics warehouse with a capacity of 2,500 pallets in the Black Sea port of Varna.

DB Schenker has been successful for many years in sports logistics with DB SCHENKERsportsevents.

Amongst other things, it has handled a number of summer and winter Olympic Games, the soccer World Cup in Germany in 2006 and South Africa in 2010, and the European Championship in Austria in 2008.

It also organises the transportation of the Austria ski team equipment to its summer training camps overseas and to races during the World Cup season.
